At the end of Pearl Harbor,
the Japanese carriers set off for home with what planes and small ships they had, leaving behind many casualties and half sunken American vessels. The U.S.S. Arizona, one of the more powerful and large ships, still had men sealed inside it as it began its slow descent into the ocean. Others were severly damaged, or also sunk. Not much was left of Hickam Air Force Base. The large, proud refueling station and military airport was now degraded to almost nothing except for a a hospital wing and the back end of the main building.
There were also some long term effects of Pearl Harbor that stretched outside of just this attack. The main effect was the bombing on Hiroshima. Hiroshima was a major city in Japan that was bombed by "Enola Gay" twice. The first bomb was named "Little Boy", and the second called "Fat Man". Since Japan had brought America into WWII, America decided they would end it by dropping two bombs. This successfully cut off Germany's allies, forcing the Nazis to surrender, and weakened them to be conquered more easily. This set all of Japan back and made them withdraw from WWII. Another effect was that mobilizing the United States and bringing them into the war helped them pull out of the Great Depression. Also, since the United States entered the war, this helped the Allies win and effectively ended the Holocaust.
